A recent statement from the Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) indicates that less than 10% of applicants for teaching assistant jobs in 24 education areas have passed a recruitment test

The OBEC Secretary-General, Chinnapat Bhumirat, said 1,536 out of 21,773, i.e. around 7% of candidates, scored higher than the 60% mark threshold. The 2013 exam took place in June in all 79 education areas across the country.

Mr. Chinnapat remarked that he had received feedback from applicants who said the test was ‘difficult’. The examination papers will be reviewed to determine whether the academic quality of graduates has declined, he said.

The figures were compiled from 24 education areas in Thailand. These education areas were drawn from Chumphon, Ranong and Phangnga in the South; Ayutthaya in the Central Plains; Kamphaeng Phet and Phetchabun in the North; and Nakhon Ratchasima and Surin in the Northeast.
